A Taste of History
I collaborate with Crystal Alegria (Director Extraordinaire of The Extreme History Project) and Anza Jensen (Patch Chef and culinary mastermind) for A Taste of History, a unique program that also happens to be a lot of fun. Every Montana summer, we take groups of food-loving folks to historic sites across southwestern Montana and use recipe re-creations and unique flavor-and-taste combinations to bring the past alive.
The 2026 A Taste of History season includes sessions in
Virginia City, Elkhorn, Helena, Butte, and Billings.
More information about A Taste of History can be found at The Extreme History website, and if you want to register for one of the remaining sessions, you can get in touch with Crystal or myself...

My attention is often taken up with daily details, so I’m trying to focus my full self, for at least a few minutes each day, on beauty. Ideally, we would all be ensconced in peaceful, pleasurable spaces where we could appreciate the more-than-human world, but that is unfortunately not true for all of us all the time, or even for some of us some of the time. If you can get outside in the wind and the sun, don’t waste time on this digital stand-in! But if not, here’s some food for your senses…
If you are local, feel free to get in touch (jennifer@thegravelpatch.com) about using the Patch as a meditative space where you might step out of your everyday for some quiet reflection, a chat with a pig, or a nap in the greenhouse.
